This motel suite is located at the Gander Inn Motel. This is a large property with space for large groups, BBQ areas, and space to relax.We are located in the Village of Lewellen, 18 miles north of I-80, 10 minutes from Lake Mac. We are also close to Ash Hollow Park and Clear Creek Wild Life Refuge. This historical building has been through many conversions over the years. The house was built in 1912 for the Orr family. Then in 1943 the Orr family donated this home to the village of Lewellen to become a hospital, Lewellen Community Hospital, which was moved to it's current location at 105 Church Street. The operating room was on the first floor; after the doctor was finished with the surgery, patients were carried upstairs to a private room for recovery. There were many children in Garden County born in this hospital from 1943 to the late 1960's. Room # 7 was used as the delivery room, and the current bathroom upstairs was the nursery. The original scrub sink used is still in use today. The original baby scale used during that time is still currently displayed at the Inn. The nursing home was added to the right side of the hospital which later became the motel rooms of today. The cottage was originally used as the nurses quarters.

Our little Prairie Bungalows was built with solid cement blocks by a German immigrant, Carl Tuchenhagen, who came to the Nebraska Panhandle for the Free Land (Homestead). After a time he married Myron’s Grandmother, Johanne, a young widow with three boys. Carl had been trained as a stonemason in Germany. Building with these solid cement blocks was the perfect material for the Sandhills of Nebraska. As Johanne put it in her “proving-up” declaration “there are no trees to build a house”. As you visit anywhere along the 100th Meridian, from the Black Hills, Mt. Rushmore, the Pine Ridge Reservation, and Wounded Knee, as well as the Old Town of Gordon, you will find your stay much more pleasant in our lovely home. It is completely updated, with new plumbing, electricity, oak floors, and handmade( by Myron) kitchen cabinets. New paint and lovely furnishings make this such a comfortable respite for travelers. If you don't want to cook one night during your stay we strongly recommend you look into Bayside Grill located inside the club house.
